The purpose of this article is to inform the reader about different diets and will discuss the pros and cons of each diet. It will discuss 6 different diets within the article. Alongside with these 6 diets the article will feature a question and answer interview with a women who has used different diets. This therefore means that this article is an informative article with the aim of teaching the reader. Due to the purpose of this article being to give the reader a quick lesson which they can flick through whilst looking at the magazine.
Narrative voice
(1st, 2nd or 3rd person)
This article will not have a narrative voice due to the format of the article. However within the interview section of the article the use of “you” and “I” will appear to show the discussion between the interviewer and the interviewee.
Register
(informal/formal, colloquial, dialect, taboo words?)
The register for this article will be informal, this is because the discussion that is held throughout the article is not of a serious matter, however due to the target audience being ABC1 there will not be the use of colloquial or taboo lexis.
Stylistics
(repetition, strong verbs, adjectives, alliteration, similes, metaphors, sentencing, rhythm)
As this article only aims to inform the reader rather than touch or pull on the heart strings of the reader, it is not important to use particularly strong or emotive lexis. However to ensure that the article does appear fun to read the use of alliteration is used in the title “Diets. Dangerous or Delightful?”
Tone of address
(hectoring, sarcastic, ‘matey’, ironic, etc)
The tone of address used in this article will be fun and “matey” this is because it is important that the reader doesn't get bored of reading the article, this therefore means it is important to have a fun and light-hearted tone running throughout.
Structure and pace
(discourse structure, logical paragraphing, connectives, conclusion)
Due to the layout of this article which will consist of 6 break out boxes for each individual diet and one for the interview, paragraphs are not an important feature that needs to be considered. The use of bullet points throughout the article also mean that the sentence length will always be short throughout.
