Model's Home Risk Assessment

1Hazard: Cables
What could cause harm? Loose cables trailing on the floor.
What is the likelihood of this happening? Unlikely
How much harm? This could lead to tripping which may lead to more serious injuries such as broken bones.
Apply the following priorities, how will this risk be managed (provide detail)?
Eliminate.       Reduce or substitute                 Control.         - these priorities will be applied as I will ensure that as little number of cables as possible are in the surrounding areas, the main possibility of a cable is the camera charging lead. If this is the case then I will ensure that the cables are tucked away and not on walk ways, therefore avoiding the chances of someone slipping. This will eliminate the possibility of cables causing a hazard.

2Hazard: Electricity
What could cause harm? Electric shocks caused by liquid spilling on sockets or electrical products or wires not being connected properly.
What is the likelihood of this happening? It is unlikely that this would happen due to safety precautions that are taken
How much harm? This could cause minor to serious amounts of harm starting from minor electric shocks to major ones which would involve having to be hospitalised.
Apply the following priorities, how will this risk be managed (provide detail)?
Eliminate.        Control.      -These priorities will be applied as I will ensure that all plug sockets which are not in use are switched off and any that are being used will have the plugs inserted securely and correctly. It is important that control is taken over the placing of drinks when doing the photo shoot. This means that it is important to only place drinks etc away from all electrical equipment to avoid spillages.

Queen Elizabeth Photography Studio Risk Assessment

1)Hazard: Cables
What could cause harm? Loose cables on the floor from equipment such as lighting and camera leads
What is the likelihood of this happening? Unlikely
How much harm? Could cause tripping which could lead to serve injuries such as broken bones.
Apply the following priorities, how will this risk be managed (provide detail)?
Control – this will be done by ensuring all cables are securely tucked away, and not covering walk ways. This is to ensure that the possibility of tripping is reduced.

2)Hazard: Lighting
What could cause harm? The flash lighting could cause harm to the eyes
What is the likelihood of this happening? Unlikely
How much harm? This could cause pain and blinding to the eyes
Apply the following priorities, how will this risk be managed (provide detail)?
Reduce or substitute – to reduce the likelihood of damage occurring due to lighting is to have a low flash lighting setting on the lights therefore avoiding the chance of pain being inflicted.

3)Hazard: Electricity
What could cause harm? The plugs from the equipment and those not in use may be left switched on or in an unsafe way such as with plugs hanging loosely/ not in the plug hole properly
What is the likelihood of this happening? Unlikely
How much harm? This could lead to electric shocks
Apply the following priorities, how will this risk be managed (provide detail)?
Eliminate & Control. – this will be controlled by ensuring that all empty plug sockets have the electricity switched off and plug fillers inserted. This means that there is no likelihood of liquid entering the socket or people touching the socket. The use of such control over the situation will eliminate the chances of this hazard becoming a real problem.

Date and time of photo shoot:

Material to be shot: Laura standing in the studio, both close up images and mid range images.

What personnel do you need?

Lighting assistant: N/A
Makeup assistant: Holly Wright
Models: Laura Senior

What props will you need? N/A

Describe in detail your make-up & costume needs.
(Include reference material to illustrate your needs)
Make up – Laura’s make up will be natural and normal, however there will be mascara smudges underneath her eyes to imply that she has been crying to add to the theme of depression.
Hair – Laura will be wearing her hair down and straight, it will have the messy effect to indicate the stress and emotions she has.
Costume – For this photo shoot, Laura will be wearing a loose black dress, the reason for this is because the colour is to represent the dark feeling depression has on individuals.

Studio shoots: what kind of lighting?
(include reference material to illustrate your needs)
This photo shoot will use broad lighting. This is because it will shadow half of Laura’s face therefore creating a hidden feel.

Backdrop:

The backdrop for this photo shoot will be white, this is because the images will be published in black and white and will therefore create a white/grey look.

Lighting equipment needs:

For this photo shoot I will need the three lights, flash lighting kit and a reflector due to using broad lighting. All I will need for this photo shoot are the three lights and the flash kits.

Contingency Plans - 10 Top Project Killers

What could go wrong during production
How are you going to avoid this issue? What’s your back up plan?

Equipment failure

To ensure that the equipment will not break or fail during the photo shoot and production I will check that the equipment is working prior to the photo shoot. This means that when I arrive for the photo shoot I can be sure that there will be no issues with the equipment and won’t have to waste time trying to fix it.

Models turning up in the incorrect costume

To ensure that this doesn’t occur, I will contact all of my models as well as sending them a call sheet which will consist of giving the individual instructions in terms of what to do with their hair, make up and clothing. Also to show the models what I am expecting I will show the models images prior to the photo shoot which will give them a clearer idea. I will ensure that I have had contact back from my models before the week of my photo shoot to ensure that they have received their call sheet and will allow them to ask any queries they may have.

Computer crashes after spending time perfecting work.

To avoid any issues with losing work due to technical issues such as the computer crashing I will ensure that I regularly save work onto network space after each major change to ensure that there is always an up to date copy of your project. I will also back up my work onto a memory stick so that it is saved to more than one place. Using Google Drive to also save work means that it is stored into the online network space which is said to be very reliable in terms of keeping work safe.

Not being prepared for photo shoot and therefore only having a short space of time to take photographs

To avoid running out of time whilst doing my photo shoots I will plan them thoroughly including make-up, hair, expressions, poses and lighting. This means that the photographs can be taken immediately. I will also ensure that the photo shoot slot that I have booked is a long period of time to make sure that I do not have to rush taking the photographs meaning I will have the best possible outcomes.

Final copy of your product corrupting

To ensure that this doesn’t cause an issue when creating my product I will ensure that I have the file saved in more than one place such as memory stick, I will also use the college network as the main saving space as it can be retrieved.

USB which has work saved on was lost or damaged.

The golden rule for doing work is: DO NOT SAVE IT ON A MEMORY STICK! And if I do save my work on a memory stick must also save it onto network space as it can be backed up onto the college system, I will also save it on a computer at home to ensure that it is saved to multiple areas and therefore avoiding work being lost.

Photographs coming back not in focus

To ensure that photographs come back in focus and are suitable to be used for my product I will take test shots to allow me to see whether or not the images are in focus. If they are not in focus I will be able to adjust the focus on the camera. This means that I will not waste time during the photo shoot messing around with the focus on the camera and therefore having less time for my photo shoot.

Models not turning up due to educational reasons.

To avoid this from happening I will ensure that my models are fully aware of their exam timetables and course work dead lines before they agree to be a model for my production. I will also have my photo shoot booked with plenty of time before my hand in date so if necessary I can reschedule my photo shoot. The final way to resolve this issue is to have back up models who also know the details and information about the shoot so if it comes to this issue they will be up to date and know what is expected.

Fonts not being installed to computer

If the font I wish to use isn’t installed on the computer I am being used, this would affect my production stage as I will not be able to access them whilst creating my magazine. To avoid this happening I will save the fonts onto various spaces such as the college network, at home and onto my memory stick therefore meaning they will be accessible when I need them.

Creating work at home that cannot be accessed at college

It is important that I know what programmes are installed on the college computers and which are so that I can avoid using programmes which aren’t installed as this would immediately cause disruption within the production. However as I do not have Photoshop or InDesign at home I will not have to worry about not having the correct programme installed. I will use Microsoft word for working at home as it is unlikely that when I bring my work to college that it will be incompatible, as different versions of this do not tend to differ greatly.
For images I will attempt to ensure that the majority of computers save them all as Jpeg as this is the most recognised format; therefore there should be no issues with saving and opening them on different computers.

Eat Well. Stay Well. Article Planning

Article Planning Sheet – Eat Well. Stay Well.

Article target audience: Females, 16-24 years old, ABC1

Planning Comments
article genre
(purpose, type)
The purpose of this article is to inform the reader about good mood foods and bad mood foods, basically meaning which foods they should eat and which foods they should avoid. This will consist of a short article explaining how food can differ our moods and a breakout box which lists foods they should eat and which foods they should avoid and a short description as to why.
Narrative voice
(1st, 2nd or 3rd person)
The narrative voice used in this article will be 2nd person and will regularly use the word “you”. The reason for this being to ensure that the article appears direct to the reader therefore will entice them in to read more.
Register
(informal/formal, colloquial, dialect, taboo words?)
The register in this article will be informal and may use very mild colloquial lexis, this is to ensure that the article is appealing to the reader. However due to the target audience being a part of the ABC1 socioeconomics group there will be no use of taboo lexis throughout the article and the whole magazine.
Stylistics
(repetition, strong verbs, adjectives, alliteration, similes, metaphors, sentencing, rhythm)
This article will use repetition, for example in the title, and will also use it throughout the main body of the text, particularly with the use of the word “you” to ensure that it appears direct to the reader throughout. The use of metaphors and similes will be used to ensure the article appears fun and interesting to the reader, this will also make the reader think further into the article, for example, making them wonder why the particular metaphor has been used and what it is there to represent.
Tone of address
(hectoring, sarcastic, ‘matey’, ironic, etc)
The tone of address will be friendly, this is because the topic being discussed isn’t serious therefore there is no reason to make the article appear too formal. The article will be light-hearted throughout to keep the tone running evenly throughout.
Structure and pace
(discourse structure, logical paragraphing, connectives, conclusion)
The main body text in this article will be split into paragraphs to ensure that the text is broken up, this is important due to the age of the target audience being 16-24 as stereotypically they cannot concentrate for too long of a time, which is also the reason for only having a short article and bullet points in the breakout box. The sentence length will be mid length as it will be informative however will be quite a fast pace read to ensure that the readers do not get bored throughout.
