Article target audience: Females, 16-24 years old, ABC1

Planning Comments
article genre
(purpose, type)
The purpose of this article is to inform the reader about depression specifically among young people. This therefore making it an informative article.
Narrative voice
(1st, 2nd or 3rd person)
The narrative voice for this article will be 2nd person; the reason for this being is because it will make the article more direct to the individual reader therefore meaning they will feel like they are being spoken to rather than being a part of a wide audience.

Register
(informal/formal, colloquial, dialect, taboo words?)
The register for this article will be between both formal and informal, this is because it is important to discuss such a serious topic in a formal way to ensure to upset or offence occurs, however to be sure that it is still appealing to the target audience it will not be too formal. To follow the style of being relatively formal, there will be no use of colloquial or dialect words.
Stylistics
(repetition, strong verbs, adjectives, alliteration, similes, metaphors, sentencing, rhythm)
This article will have the use of repetition throughout, this will be done by using the word “you” in continuous sentences to make the article direct to the reader so that they are able to really get into it and understand it. The use of emotive lexis will appear throughout also, this is to tug on the heart strings of the readers to allow them to understand the real seriousness that teen depression has.
Tone of address
(hectoring, sarcastic, ‘matey’, ironic, etc)
The tone throughout will be serious and formal, this again, is due to the topic. It would be inappropriate to use sarcastic or “matey” tones as it wouldn't suit the article topic and may also cause offence to readers if they feel that jokes are being made.
Structure and pace
(discourse structure, logical paragraphing, connectives, conclusion)
This article will be split into a number of paragraphs in the aim to avoid the article looking too busy as this wouldn't be appealing to the target audience. However due to the seriousness of the topic the sentence length will vary from short to long depending on the particular discussion within the article. For example the introduction will use short sentences to emphasise the power and control that depression has over people, whereas in the main body of the article the sentence length will be mid to long, this is because to keep the appropriate tone throughout it needs to be a slow paced read.
